Bath Replaced With A Walk-In Low Level Shower Coventry
The client found his traditional bath unsafe and difficult to access due to its height. Because the room was very compact, replacing just the bath wasn't possible without updating the surrounding layout. While some projects allow for a simple swap of the bath for a walk-in shower, this compact layout required a total space redesign:

The Solution

  • Optimized Layout: The original basin overhung the bath, blocking the entrance area. We replaced it with a compact pedestal basin to create clear, unobstructed access to the new walk-in shower.
  • Enhanced Comfort: We installed a comfort-height toilet. Being higher than standard models, it reduces strain and makes sitting and standing much easier.
  • Smart Safety Adjustments: The original radiator was too wide, creating a burn risk near the toilet and blocking space for a necessary grab rail. We relocated the heating line and fitted a slimline towel warmer, maximizing space around the toilet and allowing proper safety rails to be installed.

To comply with UK regulations regarding structural joists, waste pipe routing often requires either a shower waste pump or a raised tray. After discussing the options, the client declined the waste pump system and chose a slightly elevated tray with a small step.

Accessibility Without the Clinical Look

Our client wanted a safer space without sacrificing aesthetic appeal. Accessibility should never mean compromising on style—and achieving a modern, stylish look doesn’t have to cost extra. It simply comes down to thoughtful product selection, clever design, and high-quality fitting.

For example, we replaced the existing flooring with a high-grade anti-slip safety floor. Instead of looking clinical, the flooring was carefully selected to complement the wall coverings, creating a cohesive, modern finish that is as safe as it is beautiful.

By choosing a 1800mm by 800mm shower tray—which is both longer and wider than the original bath, we perfectly covered the old footprint. This clever formatting meant we didn't have to repair or replace any of the existing flooring, saving the client money and mess. Project Timeline: This entire transformation took just 3 days from start to finish.

Tailored Product Selection

We carefully selected and installed high-quality products designed for longevity and maximum accessibility:

  • 800mm wide and 8mm thick toughened glass shower screen.

Designed with Purpose: The Objectives

Our primary objective was to create an independent, confident showering experience. Every single stage of using the shower was meticulously thought out—from entering and turning on the water to sitting, standing, and leaving the area.

1. The Dual-Pole Bus & Train Concept

We installed a dual-pole solution to enable the user to enter the shower confidently. Think of it like boarding a bus or standing on a train—having sturdy grab poles accessible on both sides keeps you perfectly balanced and secure at all times.

2. Smart Shower Valve Placement

We positioned the electric shower controls on the side wall. This allows the user to step into the enclosure and turn the water on before entering the wet zone, letting them wait for the water to warm up before safely moving to the seat.

3. Seated Stability

The wall-mounted shower seat provides a secure, comfortable position so the user can bathe without the risk of slipping or experiencing fatigue.
