Could You Be Eligible for 0% VAT?
Who Qualifies for VAT Relief?
You can qualify for zero-rated VAT if the bathroom adaptation is for a person who:
- Has a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and substantial effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities.
- Has a chronic condition that is treated by the medical profession as a long-term illness (such as Diabetes, Arthritis, MS, or Heart Disease).
- Is terminally ill.
Note: VAT relief does not apply to elderly people who are otherwise able-bodied, or to those with temporary disabilities (like a broken leg).
What Work is Eligible?
- Walk-in Showers & Wet Rooms: Replacing a traditional bath with a level-access shower or wet room if getting in and out of a bath is difficult.
- Walk-in Baths: Installing baths with sealable doors for easier access.
- New Ground Floor Bathrooms: Installing a bathroom on the ground floor because the user can no longer safely use the stairs.
- Wider Doorways: Widening a bathroom door to allow for wheelchair or walker access.
- Associated Work: Essential work directly related to the adaptation—such as necessary tiling, plastering, and plumbing.
