In this featured Coventry property, the clients did not require a complete bathroom overhaul. Instead, they requested a simple, seamless bath-to-walk-in shower conversion.
Why Choose a Shower Conversion?
- Quick Turnaround: This type of adaptation can typically be completed in just 3 to 5 days, minimizing disruption to your home and daily routine.
- Cost-Effective: By focusing only on the shower area, you save on time materials and labor required for a full renovation.
- Improved Accessibility: A low-level walk-in shower offers safer, easier access, making it ideal for anyone with mobility concerns.
The Project Details & Technical Choices
The original bathroom featured a standard-sized bath measuring 170cm by 70cm. Our team removed the bath to make room for a modern walk-in shower tray.
During the planning stage, we always discuss the technical requirements of the plumbing layout with our clients:
The Final Decision: After reviewing the options, the clients decided against adding a mechanical pump. Instead, they opted for a raised shower tray, which utilizes standard gravity drainage while still providing a highly accessible and stylish walk-in shower.
Braddan Anti-Slip Shower Tray
Aside from being an ideal choice for mobility, independence, and long-term peace of mind, this specialised tray offers distinct everyday advantages over budget alternatives
- Market-Leading Slip Resistance: Built with a premium, textured surface that provides excellent grip underfoot.
- Easier to Clean: Unlike standard anti-slip trays found in traditional high-street bathroom shops which often trap dirt, soap scum, and limescale in thin ridges, the Braddan tray features a superior finish that is exceptionally easy to wipe down and maintain.
- Structural Strength: Manufactured from high-grade Glass Reinforced Plastic , it is exceptionally sturdy and built to last.
Safety & Accessibility Features
- 1000mm Wide Shower Screen with Dual Pole Support System: We installed a generous 1000mm wide glass screen, anchored by our specialised Dual Pole Support System. This heavy-duty, two-handed vertical pole setup acts as an exceptionally stable grab rail. It allows the user to use either or both hands for complete stability when entering, using, or leaving the shower area..
- Mobility Thermostatic Mixer Shower: We fitted a specialised mobility shower equipped with an thermostatic valve to prevent any risk of scalding. Crucially, the heavy-duty riser rail doubles as a certified grab rail that can support up to 150kg of weight.
- Fold-Away Shower Seat & Support Rails: A dedicated shower seat was securely mounted to the end wall. We paired this with an adjacent wall grab rail, providing the user with direct, sturdy leverage when transitioning between sitting and standing.
- Zonal Grab Rails: Additional ergonomic grab rails were strategically placed around the wider room to ensure continuous support and fall prevention at every step.
Shower Panels vs. Wall Tiles: The Honest Comparison
The honest truth is that both options are excellent, but both require proper care. Neither option is entirely self-cleaning—whether you choose tiles or shower panels, both can develop surface mould over time if they are not regularly cleaned and wiped down to dry.
However, they each have distinct advantages depending on the scope of your project:
Video of the Mobility Shower Room
Because this Coventry project was a specific bath to shower adaptation rather than a full room overhaul, shower panels were the superior method. Using panels allowed our team to keep the workspace entirely contained to the shower enclosure. It eliminated the need to disturb the rest of the bathroom's existing decor, significantly speeding up the installation time and allowing the clients to get back to using their home much sooner.
